About the Collection

From the Trader Joe’s Produce Aisle to the Gallery Wall

Great art often begins in the most unexpected places. For watercolor artist Millie Velasco, the inspiration for her debut solo exhibition happened by chance during a routine grocery run.

Velasco walked into the Hermosa Beach Trader Joe’s to purchase coffee and left completely captivated by the whimsical shapes, expressive contours, and individual personalities of the autumn gourds on display. That spontaneous moment of wonder catalyzed an intense creative exploration, resulting in a cohesive series of 31 unique original watercolor paintings where no two subjects are alike.

Utilizing delicate, layered watercolor washes on premium 100% cotton archival paper, Velasco meticulously documents the organic eccentricities, rich patinas, and playful geometries of each botanical subject.

The exhibition features 30 intimately scaled 6" × 6" miniatures alongside one spectacular 18" × 18" centerpiece statement artwork. Each piece is custom-matted and presented in a clean, elegant frame, carefully curated to invite both seasoned collectors and first-time art buyers into the narrative.
